John Isaiah Pierre was born January 25, 1937 to the late Pastor Louis Pierre and Bernice Tassin Pierre.
John is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jean Marshall Pierre of which they shared 54 years of marriage together. John attended school in Luling and upon completion of high school he then served one tour in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Ranger. After completing his obligations to the military, John received a business degree while working with Mack Trucking Co. After working with Mack as the head mechanic, John ventured in establishing his own business by purchasing his first truck, “Eagle One.” John saw opportunities to purchase another truck which led to a third truck. When John had slow periods with his trucks he continued to use his skills as a mechanic when working with Keeling Trucking and Jay Jones.
John is survived by two children, John Ivan Pierre (Michelle’) and Adele Minuette Pierre Barthe’ (Alex). Brothers: Percy (Alma), Edward (Josie), Claude (Ella), Bernard (Angelica) and brother-in-law: Johnnie Marshall (Inez) Sisters: Florence Ewens (Caesar), Janet Pierre Williams (Theodore), Ethel Pierre Sandolph (Amos). The grandchildren are Christian Pierre Starr (Samuel), John-Brandon Pierre, Melanie Pierre Lowery (Ernest), Christopher Barthe’ (Leslie) and Ariana Barthe’. John also leaves two great-grandchildren, Selena Jean-Marie Barthe’ and Major Starr (unborn).
He will be remembered by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John will always be remembered for his famous phrase, “I got to do what I got to do.” As a faithful member of Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, John will be deeply missed. Pastor, officers and members of the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church of New Orleans, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the home-going services on Friday, June 28 at noon at the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, located at 5919 Morrison Road in New Orleans. Pastor Reginald Varnado Sr. officiating.
Interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans.. Visitation will be at the above named church from 10 a.m. until service time. Bardell’s Mortuary of Mt. Airy was in charge of arrangements.
