Johnnie “John” McDermott passed away on Monday, June 23 at the age of 78.
Beloved husband of Diane McDermott after 24 years of Sacred Marriage.
Loving father of Niki Short (and companion, Randy Caronna) and Philip Short (and wife, Melissa).
Proud grandfather of Erin, Keil and Lily Groves and Daltan and Skylar Short.
Devoted great-grandfather of Alicia Blake, Christian Rollette, Journey Groves and the late, Gabrielle.Brother of Gary McDermott (and wife, Cheryl).Uncle of Sean McDermott (and wife, Beth) and Michelle Ryckman.
Son of the late, June White and John Riley McDermott.Also survived by two great-nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mr. McDermott was a retired Engineer with Avondale Shipyard after 47 years of service, a United States Army Veteran, a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He was a licensed Pilot with an avid love for the sky, one of the original founders of the Ama Airport and will always be loved and remembered by all who knew him.
A native of Picher, Oklahoma and a resident of Luling for the past 60 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 28.
