Daniel Anthony Matherne, 78, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died Sept. 17, 2008.
He is survived by one son, Dirk A. Matherne and wife Laurie F. Matherne, two daughters, Valerie Matherne Lutz and husband John, Leah Matherne Cornwell and husband Doyle; one sister Paney Matherne Brown and four grandchildren, Evan Matherne, Colin Matherne, Bryce Cornwell and Aubrey Cornwell. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie M. Matherne; parents, Charles Matherne, Jr. and Pearl Candies Matherne and one sister Lois M. Matherne. He was a lifelong commercial crab fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. He was a wonderful story teller. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. Interment St. Gertrude Cemetery. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Nativity School, 3500 Highway 1, Raceland 70394.
