JoAnne “Nanny” White Gordo

JoAnne “Nanny” White Gordon, 76, passed away on June 4, 2018, in Covington, La.

JoAnne was born on Jan. 9, 1942 in Union, Miss., to Levi White and Annie “Lora” Scarbourgh White. She was a resident of Loranger, La.

JoAnne was a graduate of Mississippi State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She went on to earn her master’s degree plus 30 hours from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She was a beloved teacher in Mississippi and Louisiana. After several years of teaching in the St. Charles Parish school system, she retired from Mimosa Park Elementary.

While at Mississippi State University, she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity. She also loved traveling and gardening.

JoAnne is survived by her son, Howard Curtis Gordon and his wife Michelle Scardino; grandchildren, Anthony Lee Gordon, Levi Michael Gordon, Lora Christanna Pellegrin, Marie Noel Pellegrin, and Katie Morse and her husband Jathan; great-grandchild, Taylor Grace Gordon; special friend, Jim Baugh; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi White and Annie “Lora” Scarbourgh White; daughter, Joye Christanna Gordon; grandson, Jonathan Howard Gordon; her former husband and cherished friend Curtis Lee Gordon; and siblings, Jerry White, Raymond White, Arthur White, Panola White Munn, and Bessie White.

Interment at Briar Patch Cemetery in Loranger.
