Jeroline Gunnels

Funeral Services for Jeroline “Jerry” Gaston Gunnels, age 87, of Carriere, MS, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022. Her funeral is Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel in Picayune, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Burial will follow in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home. Pastor Gary McCall of the Bible Center Church will officiate the service.

Jerry was born on March 3, 1934, in El Dorado, Arkansas to Jeroline Gaston and Elmer Word Gaston. The oldest daughter of three siblings, Jerry married her high school sweetheart William Donald “Soup” Gunnels on November 14, 1954. In 1955 Jerry and Don moved to Luling, Louisiana. They built a house in Mimosa Park and had four children. Don took a job at Monsanto Chemical Company in Luling, where he worked until retirement. Jerry made lifelong friends in the Mimosa Park Subdivision, where she raised the children, was an avid bridge player, sewed beautifully and worked as an administrative assistant. The Gunnels family faithfully attended The Bible Center Church in Luling. In 2001, Jerry and Don moved to Carriere, MS. They continued to have many friendships in the Hide Away Lake neighborhood. Jerry and Don recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

Jerry’s greatest joy was her family. She loved Don, her siblings, her children, the spouses of her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchild, and every single niece and nephew with her entire heart. Jerry will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Gaston. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, William Donald Gunnels, Sr., son, William (Susan) Gunnels, Jr., daughter, Victoria “Vickie” (Todd) Richard, daughter, Diane (William) Dotson, son, Timothy (Kelly) Gunnels, sister, Mary (Al) Wells, brother, James Gaston, sister-in-law, Janice Gunnels, M.D., Grandchildren, Molly Gunnels, Joshua (Katie) Alost, Jessica Alost, Stephen Dotson, Mallory Dotson, Nathan Gunnels, Aubrey Gunnels, and Great-Grandson, Cooper Alost.
