Janella “Jeanie” Becnel Smith, age 92, passed away on April 9, 2021. She was a native of Napoleonville, LA, and a resident of Independence, LA. She was a retired hospital dietician and had also worked in the medical and retail fields. Jeanie loved life and everyone she met. She absolutely loved being a mother to her three boys and was very proud of each of them. She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Southeast Louisiana Daylily Society. She was an expert at propagating day lilies and created many new species which she was allowed to name.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Louis A. Becnel Sr. and Walter Smith; brothers Emile, Jr., Jesse and Robert and sisters Mabel Martin, Mary Morales and Agnes Naquin, as well as great granddaughters Kayleigh , Kaitlynn, and Kayla Lemons, and great grandson Karsen Lemons.
Jeanie is survived by her sister Elizabeth, three sons, Louis Jr. (Lou) and spouse Glenda, Leonard and spouse Jo Ann, and Jimmy and spouse Stacia, grandchildren, Louis Becnel IV (Robin), Shayne Bush (Linda), Rebecca Johnson (Shannon), Janine Mulkey (Stevie), Lenny Becnel (Amy), Troy Becnel (Rebecca), Chad Becnel (Rebecca), Jennifer Burchett (Jason, and Celeste Matherne (Kerwin). She was also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Highway 190 W., Hammond, on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 10AM until 12PM. The funeral service will take place at NOON. A graveside service will take place at 2:15PM at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling, LA.
