Isla Jean Snodgrass Sergent

Isla Jean Snodgrass Sergent, 83, of Luling, originally from Charleston, passed away Feb. 27, 2012.

She was born March 28, 1928. She was married for 46 years to the one great love of her life, Ralph Edwin Sergent, who preceded her in death in 2000. She was a true southern sweetheart who adored her family and friends, was an advocate of animals, and an expert cook and gardener. She was a graduate of Elkview High School. She was employed as a realtor in Luling for several years. She was thankful to the Lord for all the blessings in her life, and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview, and First Baptist Church in Luling. She was a supporter and volunteer of the St. Charles Parish Humane Society, and a member of the Riverside Garden Club.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vada (McClure) Snodgrass, who she adored and cared for until their deaths. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Webb Hickman, her brother, Johnny Snodgrass, and her nephew, Randy Snodgrass.

Surviving are her son, David Michael Sergent (wife Sonia) of Stow, Ohio; grandaughter, Mary Elizabeth Combs (husband Bradley) of Orient, Ohio; grandsons, Clinton Webb (wife Debbie) of Kalispell, Mont., and Brent Sergent (wife Nicole) of Martinsburg; and six great-grandchildren who loved her very much: Garrett and Austin Webb, Gabriella and Leila Grace Sergent and Sophia and Mitchell Combs. She is also survived by a sister, Lois Ann Young and her husband, Tommy; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Snodgrass. She had several nieces and nephews. She left behind a beloved cat, Meemou; and a host of friends in Louisiana who treated and cared for her like family.

Services were on March 3 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview, with burial in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney following. A memorial for friends in Louisiana will be held at First Baptist Church, Luling on Tuesday, March 20.
