Nelda Martha Candies, an avid sportswoman who lived life to the fullest, passed away peacefully at her home in Des Allemands, La. with family by her bedside at the age of 83 on March 13. She was born April 1, 1931 in Des Allemands.
She was proceeded in death by her mother Jeanne Dufrene Candies Magee, father Ludwig Candies, stepfather Merton Magee, stepmother Anna Mae Candies, ex-husband Capt. David B. Stidham, Jr. USAF RET and two great-grandchildren Kurt and Kaleb Matherne.
Survived by her brother L.T. Candies (Helen), one half-brother Richard Candies; two half-sisters Patricia Candies Daigle (Jerry); Connie Candies Breaux (Roddie), two daughters Barbara Stidham Schneider (Jimmy) and Nelda Stidham Woodruff (Billy), five grandchildren Dawn Dufrene (Brandon Laque), April Dufrene Noel (Mike), Lori Dufrene Oubre (Matt), Brent Somme and Kandi Somme Matherne (Kurt), nine great-grandchildren, five step grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial service at Life Fellowship Church, 2671 Hwy 306, Des Allemands, La. (Bayou Gauche) on Saturday, March 21 at 4 p.m.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time.
