Barbara Lynette Norris Sassin

Barbara Lynette Norris Sassin ascended into her eternal life on April 27, 2021. She was born on February 6, 1942 in Crosby, Texas, to Melvin David and Ethel Hortense Norris. In her teen years, she was a skilled baton twirler and won many competitions, even taking the win for the entire state of Texas. She married her high school sweetheart, James Sassin on January 23, 1960.

They were married for 61 blissful years. They moved to Louisiana in 1967 upon James’s employment at Union Carbide. She worked at Taft Carbide FCU/Total Choice FCU as the CEO for 38 years. Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She embraced every single moment with her family. Everyone will remember her sweet smile and tight bear hugs.

For many years she taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Luling and enjoyed reading, puzzles, crocheting, and playing cards. She loved to cook and was well known for her chicken fried steak! She is survived by her loving husband James; their children James Sassin Jr (Tammy) and Jeffrey Sassin Sr (Louise); her seven grandchildren Brandon Sassin (Miranda), Marc Mayeux (Nicole), Sarah Troxclair (Justin), Ryan Sassin, Mallory Gros (John), Jeffrey Sassin Jr. (Chelsea), Lindsay Sassin, and Madeline Mayeux; and thoroughly adored her 14 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by 1 brother, Ron Norris. She is preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Catherine Denise Sassin. Please join us to celebrate her life on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

All those attending must wear masks. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery and Mausoleum, Luling, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
