Audrey Mae Matherne

Audrey Mae Matherne, a native and resident of Bayou Gauche, passed away peacefully with her family on May 27, 2021. She was 84 years old.

Audrey was born in 1936 to Felix and Justilia Matherne. She married Warren Joseph Matherne in 1952. Together, they raised Eric Joseph Matherne of Bayou Gauche and Glenda Matherne Dufrene of Luling. Audrey was beloved in the St. Charles Parish community as a parishioner and volunteer of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, host on the St. Charles Parish Library Bookmobile, and member of the Busy Bees organization. Audrey was a founding member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and opened her home to hold mass for parishioners before the church was built. She was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and received The Order of St. Louis IX medal which honors those members of the laity who have contributed their time and talents to the church.

She is survived by her son Eric and daughter-in-law Nena Matherne and daughter Glenda and son-in-law Brandt Dufrene. She is also survived by her granddaughter Dawn Matherne Meyer (Brett), grandson Ryan Matherne, and her two great-grandsons Drew and Beau Meyer. She was loved by her her sisters Elsie Tauzin, Thelma Leehans, Dolores Chiasson, Beverly Mabry and her brothers Leroy Matherne, Ernest Matherne, and Gordon Matherne. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; parents, Felix and Justilia, and her sister Virginia Comardelle.

Visitation will be from 9:00am until 11:00am on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Paradis, LA. A mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday with burial to follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche.
