Police have arrested a Des Allemands woman they say traveled to doctors in Louisiana and Texas to have multiple prescriptions filled and would then sell some of the drugs.
Jennifer Webre, 33, of 176 Martin Lane, was charged with three counts of illegally obtaining hydrocodone, three counts of illegally obtaining oxycodone and three counts of illegally obtaining propoxyphene.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Webre obtained the prescriptions between January and April of 2010. She was in possession of nine prescriptions that all overlapped each other. During those four months, she obtained a total of 630 dosage units of oxycodone, hydrocodone and propoxyphene, authorities say.
“She was part of a group of people that would doctor shop in both Louisiana and Texas and then go to different pharmacists to fill the prescriptions,” Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said. “She would sell some of the prescription drugs and consume some of them.”
LaGrange says that while Webre was charged with obtaining nine different prescriptions in a four month period, there is the possibility that the group had been in operation for a longer period of time.
“We know that this is a huge problem, not just in St. Charles Parish, but across the nation,” LaGrange said. “Our narcotics unit is willing to do whatever it takes to catch people who illegally obtain prescriptions in this manner.”
