Woman convicted for stealing elderly woman’s credit cards

A New Orleans woman accused of deceiving an 82-year-old Destrehan woman and stealing her credit cards was sentenced to six months in parish prison.

Aisha Howard, of 10301 Brooksfield Dr., was convicted on charges of theft under $750 and two counts of criminal mischief. Her jail sentence, passed down by Judge Timothy Marcel, includes credit for time served. Howard’s restitution hearing will be held Jan. 27.

Howard withdrew a plea of not guilty to plead guilty.  An original charge of exploitation of the infirmed was dropped.Howard, 37, allegedly used a ruse in order to gain entry into the Destrehan home of the elderly woman.

She was identified after the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office released pictures taken from a video surveillance camera. The video shows Howard at a business using a credit card stolen from the Destrehan home, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Howard, along with another woman, knocked on the Destrehan woman’s door and said they were delivering medical supplies. When the elderly woman said she did not ordersupplies, the women asked to use a telephone book inside the home to get the correct address to deliver the supplies, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

After looking through the phone book, the women left the home. A couple of hours later, the 82-year-old noticed someone had used her credit card. She checked her purse and discovered her checkbook and credit cards were missing.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, purchases were made using the stolen credit cards in LaPlace, Covington and New Orleans.
