Woman arrested with 5 pounds of pot near school

Xanax, Hyrdrocodone also found in home

A 30-year-old Luling woman who lived near Lakeside Elementary School was arrested last week after authorities executed a search warrant at her home and found thousands of dollars worth of drugs, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Jessica Perez, of 325 Lakewood Drive, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Hydrocodone, Carisoprodol and Alprazolam. She was also charged with having a controlled, dangerous substance near school property and the possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, over 5 pounds of marijuana was discovered in Perez’s home, as was 166 doses of Carisoprodol, 15 doses of Hydrocodone and nine doses of Alprazolam, which is generic for Xanax.

All the drugs were tested and verified, Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange said.

“With the amount of drugs found, she was definitely a distributor,” LaGrange said. “The fear when we find someone selling drugs near a school is that if a deal goes bad, the perpetrators flee the scene and sometimes gunfire could be exchanged.

“We don’t want any children to be caught in the middle of that.”
