Two more arrests made in connection to Montz shooting

More details emerged Friday about a strange incident in Montz that resulted in a shooting this week — and as result, the case may be even more confusing than before.

The incident began at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday when deputies were alerted to a burglary in progress at 106 Churchill Downs in Montz. Before deputies arrived on the scene, homeowner Blanche Naquin, 37, showed up at the home with friend Chad Guillot, 35.

The two ran into Daniel Villa, who authorities first believed did not have permission to be at the home. Villa, who was armed with a gun, fled the scene and jumped into his car, but he was shot in the chest by Guillot before he could drive away, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Villa’s injury was non-life threatening, and Guillot was charged with attempted second-degree murder and several drug charges after authorities searched his car and say they found 4.4 grams of methamphetamine.

After further investigation, the Sheriff’s Office arrested two more people they say were involved in the case, including the homeowner, Naquin. Police also now say that Villa had permission to be in the residence.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Corp. James Grimaldi said that after detectives questioned additional parties involved in the incident, it was determined that Villa was staying at Naquin’s residence at her request while she was away from home.

On the morning of June 28, Mitchell Beard, an acquaintance of Villa and Naquin’s neighbor, broke into Naquin’s home early that morning. Once Naquin and Guillot arrived, Beard fled from the rear of the residence. Guillot and Villa then got into an argument that led to Villa’s shooting, according to authorities.

After Villa was shot, he went to Beard’s home to find a ride to a hospital, but Beard allegedly fired a shotgun in an unknown direction and fled the scene.

Beard, 30, of 107 Churchill Downs Drive in Montz, was arrested June 30 for aggravated burglary, two counts of felony carrying illegal weapon and illegal use of a weapon.

Naquin was arrested that same day for accessory to attempted second-degree murder, accessory to felony carrying illegal weapon and felony carrying illegal weapon.

Grimaldi said because of the ongoing investigation, there were details that the Sheriff’s Office could not disclose at this time.
