Two men that allegedly stole a pump from a St. Rose barge company were caught on tape leaving in what a witness describes as a taxicab.
The company’s video surveillance tape showed two men, one the driver of what appeared to be a taxicab, loading the stolen pump into the trunk. After the first pump was stolen two additional pumps were stolen, the witness said.
“The pumps can be used for different things, like pumping out swimming pools or barges,” John Estes, an employee of the barge company, said. “It’s not the first time we’ve had this problem because a few years ago we had some pumps stolen from us.”
The most recent incident occurred Jan. 7, at 1:33 a.m.. Initially the crime wasn’t reported to police because the company was expecting the pump to be picked up for repair by a Gretna based firm.
It was later discovered that the pump was stolen and since that time two additional pumps had been stolen from barges that were tied off at the dock.
The dispatcher working in the control room at the time of theft did not see the taxi or anything being stolen.
