Twelve stores sell to minors in sting operation

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office partnered with Louisiana Alcohol and Tobacco Control Agents to launch an operation targeting the illegal sale of tobacco and alcohol to under aged citizens Wednesday, and arrests were made with 12 stores failing the test. During the operation, a total of 44 stores in St. Charles Parish were tested with 32 stores resulting in a positive outcome by denying the sale to the under aged participant.  Twelve stores failed the test by selling an underaged participant a variety of items that included  chewing tobacco, cigarettes, beer and other alcoholic beverages.

The cashiers that failed to comply with the law and sold alcohol to the under aged participants were arrested by misdemeanor summons for the Louisiana Revised Statute 14:93.11 for unlawful sales of alcohol to someone under the age of 21.  The cashiers that failed to comply with the law and sold tobacco products to the under aged participants were arrested by misdemeanor summons for the Louisiana Revised Statute 14:91.8 for unlawful sales of tobacco or vape products to someone under the age of 18.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, arrests were made at these stores: Birdies (Destrehan), Corner Market, St. Rose Truck Stop, River Discount (St. Rose), St. Rose One Stop, St. Rose Discount,  Red Church Shell, CVS Destrehan, Family Dollar, Shell ( Hwy 90 Paradis) Vape Escape (Hwy 90 Luling)and Pit Stop (Hwy 90 Luling).
