Time running out to purchase signed bricks for hero monument

Only another week remains for those who want to be part of a “legacy walk” and have their names forever associated with the construction of the Fallen Hero Memorial.

Construction is nearly complete on a monument that will be placed in front of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office’s new law enforcement complex, but residents can still purchase memorial bricks to surround the area.

The bricks will make up a walkway to and around the memorial. The memorial will honor the three parish law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, including Sheriff Lewis Ory, Deputy James Alan Arterbury, and Deputy Nelson Coleman.

“Right now, we have sold about 85 percent to 90 percent of the bricks needed,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said. “We are $7,000 short, and once we reach that total, we will stop selling bricks.

“So this is really the last chance for people to have their names engraved on the bricks.”

The bricks, which can be purchased in different sizes, can include text or even logos depending on how much is spent. They range in price from $100 to $1,000.
