Teen drowns in Des Allemands

Pulled under by current, yelled for help before disappearing

A 14-year-old boy drowned on Sunday while swimming with friends in Lac Des Allemands, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Cameron Simon, of St. James parish, was swimming with a group of people near the Des Allemands boat launch at around 2:30 p.m. when he suddently began thrashing in the water, according to Capt. Pat Yoes, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

“He screamed for help and then he went under and never resurfaced,” Yoes said.

Simon’s friends soon got the attention of a police officer who was driving near the area. He alerted the parish’s Dive Team and the teen’s body was located at about 5:42 p.m.

“We believe that he got caught up in the current and it pulled him under,” Yoes said.
