Teen arrested in connection with Ormond burglaries

A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested Tuesday in connection with a string of Ormond burglaries.

On Aug. 23, Champagne sent out a neighborhood alert message to residences living in the Ormond area warning them about the attempted burglaries of five homes that occurred between West Woodlawn and Bocage.

“About noon Tuesday (Aug. 28), a burglar alarm was reported to our office,” Sheriff Greg Champagne told the Herald-Guide.

“Several plain clothes detectives in the area immediately converged on an Ormond residence and a teen was arrested fleeing the home, in the 100 block of Villere Drive,” he continued.

Champagne reports that the rear door of the residence had been kicked in just like in the other cases.

“The juvenile apparently dropped out of high school,” he said.

“We are investigating to determine if he acted alone.” Missing items ranged from knife sets to electronic games.

The teen’s bond has been set at $25,000.
