Teachers helping students for grad ceremony

Luling Elementary teachers are helping fifth-graders who need shirts and ties.

Luling Elementary School has a fifth grade graduation ceremony at the end of the year, but not all students can afford the required dress shirt and tie for this year’s event.

Teacher Elizabeth Gaubert said they weren’t going to let any student go without for the event, which is in May.

“We were just asking our fellow teachers if they had funds or any extra shirts and ties so some of our boys can have that to wear,” Gaubert said.

Who those students may be who needs these items isn’t known yet, but she said they average three to five students who need the help, she said.

This is why teaching is way more than only a career, it’s a vocation.

Gaubert said teachers routinely intervene to assist students.

In this case, anticipating the need is important because she said these students don’t know the shirt and tie will be required to wear at the ceremony this year. They’ll be notified by letter later this year.
