But the news isn’t all good – last year we had 10

Louisiana education officials released school performance scores just days ago and seven St. Charles Parish elementary schools received an impressive three-star ranking. They are: A.A. Songy Sr. Kindergarten, Ethel Schoeffner Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Mimosa Park Elementary, New Sarpy Elementary, New Sarpy Kindergarten, and Norco Elementary K-3. Last year 10 St. Charles Parish schools were given three-star ratings. Five-stars is the highest rating, but some schools may be down not because of how the numbers are being calculated this year, state education officials say.

Six elementary schools in the parish received the “exemplary academic growth” label that’s given to schools for meeting their educational-growth targets.

Allemands Elementary, Ethel Schoeffner Elementary, New Sarpy Elementary, New Sarpy Kindergarten, R.J. Vial Elementary, and St. Rose Elementary all achieved the exemplary academic growth label.

A disturbing 85 state schools have been deemed “academically unacceptable.” None of are from St. Charles Parish.

The school-by-school performance scores were based on fourth-grade and eighth-grade “LEAP” tests, the Graduate Exit Exam in 10th and 11th grades, attendance rates, and dropout rates.

Statewide, 226 schools were not given scores due to the hurricanes.
