Several locations in St. Charles Parish will serve as the setting of a noir thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson and Luke Wilson.
The film, called “Meeting Evil,” has been shooting in the area since Jan. 12 and will wrap up filming in St. Charles on Jan. 29. So far, scenes for the movie have been shot in St. Rose and Luling.
The film is based on a novel of the same name by Thomas Berger.
According to Internet Movie Database, Wilson stars as a young, disillusioned family man named John Felton who meets a mysterious stranger played by Jackson. John is then taken on a murder-fueled ride that transforms the weak-willed man into a desperate hero willing to go to any length to protect his family.
Cameras have already rolled on St. Rose Avenue, with the film’s director, Chris Fisher, taking advantage of the swampy land that borders the area, according to location manager Katie Calhoon. Scenes are also being shot near Luling’s Esperanza Business Park and in Ashton Plantation.
Calhoon said that St. Charles Parish is an attractive area to filmmakers because of the variety it offers.
“You can shoot within the city to get the feel of a city environment or suburbs, then you can go right outside to get a different look…more of a rural feel,” she said. “We have also shot in Jefferson and Orleans (parishes), but a majority of the movie is being filmed in St. Charles.
“We love being in St. Charles Parish and hopefully we can bring more films to the area.”
Corey Faucheux, the parish’s director of economic development, said the parish benefits from the filming because production crews spend money on things such as renting property and equipment, catering and purchasing gas for their vehicles.
This is the third major movie to be filmed in the parish in less than two years. In 2009, Warner Brothers shot scenes for supernatural Western “Jonah Hex” in Bayou Gauche. Last May, Norco and Bayou Gauche served as the setting for upcoming thriller “The Fields.”
