Attempted to gain entry into a home with resident on front porch
On July 6 around 10 p.m., St Charles Parish Deputies responded to a call in the 600 block of Harding Street in New Sarpy.
The call was of a suspicious person in the neighborhood, but what police found out instead after arriving was a rather bizarre burglary call.After police responded to the call, the resident on Harding Street informed police that she and her daughter were sitting on the front porch on the July evening when a black male came up and attempted to gain entry into her home.
“The subject attempted to gain entrance into the home while they were sitting on the front porch,” said Sgt. Dwayne LeGrange of the St. Charles Sherriff’s Office. “From that point, he attempted to gain entry by grabbing the front door.”
As the subject grabbed the door knob, an altercation began. According to police reports, the homeowner, then, tried to stop the male subject. “At this time, she noticed that the subject had a sharp, shiny object in his hand. Fearing for her and her daughter’s safety, she backed away,” said Sgt. LeGrange.
At the same time, according to reports, the victim noticed that subject had a clear cellophane bag which contained a white, rock-like substance inside.
The male subject then, for reasons unknown, put the shiny object and the bag in his mouth. Immediately after which, he fled the residence on foot.
The suspect fled before police arrived.
Deputies then began canvassing the area looking for the subject. Several blocks away from the attempted burglary, at Hoover and Eighth Street, police identified the subject with the description the victim had provided. As the police approached him, the subject was witnessed by police throwing something into a ditch, according to police reports.
The items were retrieved by police and tested positive for crack cocaine. The shiny object that the victim described turned out to be a crack pipe.
Ike Randle, 46, of 535 Mockingbird Ln., St. Rose was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated burglary, simple criminal damage and possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. Randle had 11 rocks of crack in his possession. Currently, he is still in custody.
Neither of the victims was harmed in the incident.
Police remain puzzled as to why Randle put the narcotics in his mouth. As for whether he was intoxicated at the time of the incident, police reports could not confirm or deny.
