St. Pierre touts drainage improvements at Chamber parish presidents’ forum

During the recent River Region Chamber of Commerce Parish Presidents’ Forum, V.J. St. Pierre touted several projects recently completed by the parish in 2011.

Those include the first phase of the Dunleith Canal stabilization, Acorn and Sharon Street sewer improvements in Boutte, continuing construction on the East and West Bank walking paths, the installation of bar screen cleaners across the parish and the replacement of an aging culvert on Ormond Boulevard Culvert.

St. Pierre said the parish now has about 90 percent of the pumping stations backed up with permanent generator power. Public Works has also applied for and obtained the necessary permits to clean about 33 miles of canals within the parish. Crews removed about one city block’s worth of trees and vegetation that had been impeding flow to the Trepagnier pump station at the East Bank Hurricane Protection Levee in Norco.
