St. Pierre recovering after heart surgery

St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr., 66, successfully underwent heart surgery Tuesday morning to replace an aortic valve.

According to St. Pierre’s family, doctors recommended the procedure on Monday as the result of an angiogram.

They say the decision was made to proceed given St. Pierre’s overall good health.

St. Pierre hopes to return to work on a limited basis within the next few weeks as part of a two to three-month recovery period.

Members of the parish president’s executive staff will handle administrative duties in Mr. St. Pierre’s absence.

“Rusty Walker is (St. Pierre’s) designee to take over chief administrative duties in his absence as specified in the charter. He will lead the rest of the executive staff in fulfilling that role,” Parish spokeswoman Renee Allemand Simpson said.
