Landry’s Outboard Motors opens after Ida forced closure for 4 months

Landry’s Outboard Motors & Repair Service owner Robert Landry

Landry’s Outboard Motors & Repair Service, LLC has been locally owned and operated in St. Charles Parish for over two decades and – most importantly – it is open again following Hurricane Ida.

Owner Robert Landry and his wife Jill are each from St. Charles Parish. Jill said the Jan. 3 reopening of the shop after Hurricane Ida damage came as a huge relief to the couple.

“We just wanted to hurry up and clean up everything to open,” she said. “But we opened up as soon as we could. We still have a lot to do, but to open back up and get some business going right now feels good. In the time we were out … in the 4 months … I still answered the phone and people were just waiting on us to get up and running. Robert has been in business here 20 years, and his reputation outdoes himself. People were really supportive and wanting us to reopen … they were going to wait until we did.”

With a waiting list already in hand ahead of the reopening, Jill said the only obstacles the business has faced so far are unfortunately all too common workforce and chain supply issues.

Still, the couple remains optimistic about the future.

“It was hard to wait to reopen,” Jill said. “We couldn’t wait for a contractor, so we did a lot of work ourselves.”

Jill said the process of getting money from the insurance company went quicky and smoothly, which sped up the process of reopening.

“I was feeling overwhelmed, but it was best,” she said of closing the store until the beginning of the year. “We have a lot more to go through and we need to straighten up everything, but we’ll do what we have to do … just like everybody else.”

The shop has been a mainstay of the community for over 20 years. The goals of Landry’s Outboard Motors & Repair Service are to help customers with the most quality service and repairs on Yamaha, Mercury, Johnson and Evinrude outboard motors, along with the right parts and accessories. It is also an Authorized Dealer and Certified Service Center for Power Pole – Shallow Water Anchors.

Since opening the business, Robert has been a Mercury service and warranty dealer. He has also specialized in painting motors of all brands and types, as well as rebuilding power heads and cleaning injectors. More recently he began selling, installing and servicing Power Poles and selling Lowe Brand boats.
