All St. Charles Parish Library branches closed until further notice

The second floor of the West Regional Library in Luling sustained significant damage in Hurricane Ida.

All St. Charles Parish Library branches are closed until further notice due to Hurricane Ida.

Several of the system’s locations sustained significant damage in the storm. The West Regional Library in Luling sustained major damages, with the roof and one entire wall being ripped off the building.  Library employees said they were working to save materials from the Louisiana Room Collection, and that most of the rest of the library and the Planetarium were in good condition.

Library officials said the East Regional Library in Destrehan had a tree leaning on the children’s room side of the building and that other trees on the property were down, but otherwise the branch appeared to be okay. The St Rose Branch suffered some small roof leaks and many trees down, and Paradis Branch only had tree and fence damage observed.

The Norco and Hahnville branches sustained some roof leaks.

“We will continue to update everyone on the status of our library buildings and our recovery efforts,” a message on the library system’s Facebook read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone as we work together to rebuild our community.”
