The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying a man who may be connected to the recent mailbox thefts that have occurred in Luling.

The pictures above where taken from a bank security camera and show a “person of interest.”

Several residents have reported that someone has removed their power, water or cable bills from their mailboxes, altered the “pay to the order of” section, changed the dollar amount and then cashed the personal checks.

Sheriff Greg Champagne said several residents discovered the fraud after checking their bank statements.

The locations where checks have been removed from mailboxes and altered include Barton Avenue, Davis Drive, Primrose Drive, Lakewood Drive, Cottage Drive, St. John Street and Apple Court. The Sheriff’s Office is currently working with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to investigate the fraud.

Residents may want to mail their bills at the post office rather than placing them in their home mailbox.

Anyone with information about the thefts, or who can identify the man in the photos, is asked to contact Det. Joseph Dewhirst at (985) 783-1135. The Sheriff’s Office is also asking people in the area who have home surveillance cameras that record the street or mailbox to contact police.
