St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office seeks help to solve drive-by shooting

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) hopes to enlist help via CrimeStoppers in solving its investigation of an apparent drive-by shooting in August.

According to SCSO authorities, 17-year-old Rashaud Capers was shot once in the head at about 11:35 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the 200 block of Meadows Drive.

Capers was then taken to a local hospital for treatment. Detectives believe a group of individuals were loitering outside a residence when a mid-2000s model maroon or burgundy colored Taurus drove by, traveling southbound.

Witnesses advised police that as the vehicle passed, an unknown black male seated in a rear passenger seat pointed a handgun out of the window and fired shots in their direction.

“Numerous detectives have been working on the case since that time,” Champagne posted via Facebook. “Very few of the several witnesses who we believe were present have offered any cooperation. Anyone who is willing to provide any information should contact us via 911 or can call Crimestoppers where you can remain anonymous. Do the right thing!”

Detectives were able to develop persons of interest and continue to investigate this incident.

The SCSO is asking anyone with information about the incident to call CrimeStoppers at 1-877-903-STOP or the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 783-2949.

Those providing information that leads to the identity of those responsible are eligible for a cash reward of $2,500. Citizens do not have to give their name nor testify.
