Prepare for battles, wins and adventures at the St. Charles Parish Library’s monthly event of tabletop role-playing games.
Designed for adults, the Adventure League program is now featuring the popular board game Dungeons & Dragons. The West Regional Library in Luling will host the next game on Thursday, December 19 at 6 p.m.
J’mie Seeser, an adult programmer at the West Regional Library, said she started the program in August.
“I have always wanted to play Dungeons & Dragons, but I did not know anyone who played growing up, so I never had the chance,” Seeser said. “I thought it would be fun to try to get a group together to play.”
She said anyone over 18 years old is welcome to attend.
“Experience is unnecessary, but welcome,” she said.
Seeser said the game involves a lot of math.
“But it’s also a lot of fun,” she said. “It is encouraging to see how many adults are still interested in using their imagination and willing to try something new.”
She said she thinks the game is popular because it is immersive and captivating. The game involves role-playing characters and the creation of a fantasy world.
“It’s a game that has lasted decades through innovation and willingness to expand beyond tabletops to online playing, while still maintaining the integrity of the game,” she said.
Seeser said she is still learning how to be Dungeon Master, or the storyteller and organizer of the game.
“I am looking forward to learning more, seeing what will happen with all the players, and how they handle the campaigns and mysteries of Dungeons and Dragons,” she said.
The library hosts a variety of programs for adults, including a weekly yoga class, a weekly knitting group, a monthly art meetup in partnership with the St. Charles Parish Art Guild, two monthly cookbook clubs, and a monthly book club, according to Lauren Campo Pitz, assistant director for St. Charles Parish Library.
