St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department expects to complete renovations at Bethune Park at the beginning of next year, according to Grayson Touchard, a spokesperson for the department.
“We are excited to provide a space where Norco residents can come together and give local recreation athletes a dedicated place to practice and play,” Touchard said.
Renovations for the park, which began in July, included adding multi-purpose fields, fencing, backstops, a batting cage, a large pavilion, a basketball court and sail shades for sun protection.
Shell donated $500,000 to cover the basketball court and build a fully accessible playground, according to Touchard.
It has been 25 years since any significant upgrades were made to Bethune Park, and the planned upgrade comes after the Department of Parks and Recreation revisited its master plan in 2021.
Touchard said Bethune Park sits on the historic ground of Bethune High School.
“After many years, the park was ready for an upgrade, and we’re thrilled to introduce a newly revitalized space to the Norco community,” she said.
