St. Charles Parish has several races with no opposition

Candidates have until tomorrow to qualify

With 1-1/2 days remaining to qualify for the Oct. 24 election primary, the St. Charles Parish races have several offices without opposition.

Offices with candidates facing no opposition as of 1 p.m. today (Sept. 9) include Sheriff Greg Champagne of Luling, a Republican; incumbent Tax Assessor Tab Troxler of Luling, a Republican; coroner Brian Brogle of Destrehan, a Republican; Wendy Benedetto of Destrehan, councilwoman at-large Division A, a Republican; Terrell Wilson of Hahnville, councilman District 1, a Democrat; Monique Gros of Paradis seeking the council District 2 seat, a Republican; Webb Jay IV of Destrehan seeking the council District 3 seat, a Republican; Traci Ackerman-Fletcher of Norco seeking the council District 6 slot, no party listed, and incumbent Julia Fisher-Perrier of Luling seeking the council District 7 seat, a Republican.

Other offices do have opposition, especially the parish president race with four candidates to date.

Larry Cochran of St. Rose, a Democrat, has qualified for the race, along with John Cornwell of Luling, also a Democrat; Terry Authement of Boutte and Carolyn K. Schexnaydre of Destrehan, both Republicans, according to the state Secretary of State’s office. Cochran is District IV councilman and Schexnaydre serves as council at-large Division A representative.

The District 4 seat has two opponents: Oliver George Dufrene Jr. of Paradis, a Democrat, and William “Billy” Woodruff of Des Allemands, a Republican. Woodruff recently resigned from the council’s District II seat when he relocated to Des Allemands.

The council at-large Division B seat also has two candidates: Paul Hogan of Des Allemands, a Republican, and Jarvis Lewis of Luling, a Democrat. Hogan holds the District IV council seat and Lewis is at-large councilman for Division B.

The council District 5 seat has three candidates: Keith Adams along with Marilyn Bellock, both Democrats, and Bobby. J. Ducote, a Republican. All three candidates live in St. Rose.

In the parish Clerk of Court election, incumbent Lance Marino of Norco, a Republican, will face C.H. “Sonny” Savoie of Paradis, a Democrat.

The justice of the peace District 1 election has two candidates: Edna Campbell Bridges and Aleshia J. Smith, both are Republicans and both live in Hahnville.

For both candidate and voter, it’s going to be a busy Oct. 24 election primary with everything from the governor’s office to local officials on the ballot.

Anyone seeking to qualify as a candidate for the Oct. 24 local election has until 4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Sept. 10) at the parish Clerk of Court’s office, 15045 River Road, Hahnville.
