Southern Latte Café loves being ‘cozy and cute’

It’s the cozy, neighborhood feel of Southern Latte Café that has kept customers coming back to this coffee shop for the seven years it has been in St. Charles Parish.

“It’s exciting because we’re meeting a lot of new customers as we continue to grow,” said owner Randy Muller. “Business continues to pick up and it’s nearly our busy time with the holidays.”

Muller said every time someone new walks in they get to hear, “Wow. It’s so cozy and cute in here.”

They love hearing it because it’s the atmosphere they were working for where someone could come in, relax and sip good coffee with friends, study for finals or having a business meeting.

Pumpkin spice coffee is on the menu now, available hot, frozen and iced. Other spirited flavors tantalize the senses like peppermint mocha, gingersnap and eggnog, he said.

The bestsellers are usually anything to do with chocolate, white chocolate or caramel. Southern Latte also offers an iced coffee that’s a slow 24-hour toddy drip coffee for customers who prefer a stronger/bolder taste.

“The coolest thing is when you walk in the door and get the coffee smell,” Muller said.

It’s an intentional aroma coming from a brew made “from premium beans from many different countries, giving it a fresh flavor every time we brew it,” he said. “Our coffee beans stand out from our competitors due to its custom blend of unique beans from around the world, which makes for a perfect cup of coffee unlike any other.”

The café also features a wide variety of flavors, unlike the big franchise companies, which Muller said gives their café a special blend to fit every taste bud.

“Our lattes and frappes are our most popular types of drinks, although they’re all good,” Muller said.

Coffee is treated like an art, he said.

He also attributes a key ingredient of the café’s success to their baristas’ dedication and training, which takes over 120 hours for them to truly understand the art and chemistry of their work.

“As the perfect place to hangout,” he added, it’s proven appealing to the morning crowd, as well as the students and book clubs that come throughout the day.

Adding to the delicious appeal of the café are the desserts. Scones are the top sellers with flavors like white chocolate raspberry, apple cinnamon and blueberry.

Additionally, catering is the fastest growing area of the business, Muller said.

“We’re really growing in private parties on Sundays,” he said.

The parties have ranged from baby showers and birthdays parties to anniversaries.

Southern Latte Café also caters for large companies and rents out the location on Sundays for events, such as baby showers, gender reveal, engagement parties, and birthdays.

Business hours are Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
