Shopping center doors set to open

First two stores will cater to LSU fanatics and fitness buffs

The first two tenants in a 12,000-square-foot shopping center are planning to open their doors in November, giving residents the chance to shop for LSU items and get in some exercise to make room for all that Thanksgiving food.

Glenn Maxwell, who owns the shopping center on Highway 90 in Luling, says that Tiger Town Gifts and Anytime Fitness will take up 60 percent of the center. He still has 4,800 square feet available and has received numerous inquiries about the space, though he has not decided who else will move into the center.

Anytime Fitness plans to open in either early or mid-November and will take up 4,800 square feet. Jennifer Perkins, who owns the gym, says that she will have three personal trainers on staff and 63 all new machines.

“Our cardiac machines also have a personal viewing screen, which lets people watch their favorite TV shows,” she said. “That makes cardio workout a lot easier.”

Perkins and her employees were outside the store last Saturday for a sign up day. Right now, she is offering an introductory rate that will likely end by Thanksgiving.
“We have a very motivated staff and we are ready to get started,” she said.

Anytime Fitness is a co-ed gym and will be open 24 hours a day.

Tiger Town Gifts is also planning to open in mid-November and will take up 2,400 square feet.

Store owner Eddie Fremen says that his store will sell all kinds of LSU items, including apparel, hats and leather products like belts.

“We will have a wide-range of items,” he said. “I want people to come in and still tell 10 of their friends about all we have even if they don’t buy anything.”

Fremen says Tiger Town Gifts will also have pre-made gift baskets for special occasions such as Father’s Day.

Two more shopping centers will also be coming to the parish.

The Boutte Shopping Center, which is located off of Highway 90 between Wal-Mart and A Storage Inn, officially broke ground in December and should be completed soon. So far, Sicily’s Pizza, Wireless from AT&T, Advance America, Nail Salon, Cato, Shoe Show and It’s Fashion have all leased areas in the 33,340-square-foot shopping complex.

There are still five spots available for lease.

A strip mall has also broken ground in Paradis.

Developer Paul Flanagan says that he hasn’t decided which stores will occupy the strip mall, but he has been approached by coffee shops, pizza places, clothing stores and insurance companies.
