The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has had one of their members named as president of the Louisiana Chapter FBI National Academy Associates.
Major Sam Zinna ascends to the presidency after serving seven years on the organizations board of directors. As president, Zinna will have oversight over the organizations operations throughout the year.
The purpose of the Louisiana chapter is to foster fraternalism among the state’s FBI graduates, while creating a professional network of contacts to aid law enforcement. It also helps provide continuing training for its members and law enforcement officers throughout the state.
The Louisiana chapter has a membership of approximately 250 active and retired law enforcement officers.
Zinna was appointed to command the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau in May 2001 and has been with the office since 1982. Prior to that, he served five years as a deputy and homicide detective with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Zinna assumed the lead role in overseeing two vital Sheriff’s Office projects at the request of Sheriff Greg Champagne, including the building of the new parish prison and the operations of the 9-1-1 communications system.
During his time with the Sheriff’s Office, Zinna also commanded administrative services, which put him in charge of the record division, data processing, and the personnel and training departments.
He has been awarded numerous citations, including certificates of merit, certificates of participation and appreciation, and many letters of congratulations from local schools, industries, businesses and government.
