Sheriff’s Office reports 23 break-ins occur during storm

Believe that most of the crimes were committed during the height of Hurricane Gustav

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office says that there have been 23 break-ins since most of the area evacuated because of Hurricane Gustav.

Of those 23, 14 were residences, four were businesses and five were other structures such as sheds or automobiles. The Sheriff’s Office believes that most of those crimes, if not all of them, occurred during the height of the storm and were committed by residents that did not evacuate.

In fact, seven of those residential burglaries occurred in St. Rose at an apartment complex on East Club Drive.
The Sheriff’s Office says that they do have suspects in that case and expect to make arrests.

Two more residential burglaries occurred in Norco and a next door neighbor of one of the victims was arrested for both crimes.
