Sheriff’s Office reminds to buckle up, ‘Click it or Ticket’

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is reminding parish residents to buckle their safety belts as the “Click it or Ticket” campaign takes off full force beginning May 23.

The Sheriff’s Office released the following this week:

During the Memorial Day Holiday, about 10,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide will be out on the roads to remind drivers and passengers to buckle their seatbelts.

In 2020, 10,674 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were killed in crashes in the United States. This was a 14% increase from 2019. An early study from January – June 2021 estimates an increase of about 18.4% of people who died from traffic accidents in the United States. That’s the largest number of projected fatalities in that time period since 2006. (Information taken from NHTSA.GOV)

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the “Click It or Ticket” campaign which will span from May 23 until May 31, 2022.

Remember: If you are caught driving while unbuckled, you will get a ticket—no excuses, no warnings. Wearing your seat belt is required by law. Day and night, front seat and back, Click It or Ticket.
