Sheriff Champagne reports that crime in St. Charles Parish fell by .03% during the second quarter of 2007 when compared to the same period in 2006.
During the first six months of 2007, crime has fallen 3.6% compared to the first half of 2006. Law Enforcement Agencies report crime to the F.B.I. based upon the U.C.R. or Uniform Crime Reporting System which tracks crime in seven categories; homicide, rape, robbery, assaults, burglary, theft and auto theft.
The total number of offenses reported during April, May and June of 2007 were 607. The total number during the second quarter of 2006 was 609. Total crimes reported during the first six months of 2007 was 1081 compared to a total of 1121 for the same period in 2006 or a total decrease of 40 or 3.6%.
This decrease is despite an approximately 20% increase in population in St. Charles
Parish, says the sheriff. Noteworthy during this second quarter is the fact that 0 homicides and 0 rapes were reported to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
