St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said his office expects to make an arrest in the near future in connection with 13 car break-ins that occurred in Luling on Tuesday night.
Twelve of the 13 vehicles that were broken into were unlocked at the time of the crime, Champagne said. Though only a few valuables were taken, a thief or thieves rummaged through cars on Beaupre Drive, Patricia Court, Willowdale Boulevard, Albania Drive, Cathy Drive, Weinnig Drive and East Levert Drive.
“We strongly suspect a juvenile or juveniles on foot may be responsible and these perpetrators likely sneaked from car to car pulling on door handles looking for those that were unlocked,” Champagne said.
Investigators are currently reviewing video surveillance footage from residents in the area where the crimes took place and Champagne believes that footage will lead to an arrest in the near future.
“In the meantime, we again implore everyone everywhere to please remove (valuables) from you car at night and to remember to lock the car,” Champagne said.
If anyone has information concerning the break-ins, they are asked to call 911.
