Senior couple wins the lotto

Takes $100K in Powerball, first win in lottery

After years of buying lottery tickets and believing the win would come one day, it finally did for one lucky Luling couple.

Although they asked not to be identified, the couple are both in their eighties.

They say they contacted their children last Wednesday and were thrilled when they learned it was true.

Right after that announcement, they mused that the win probably covered all the money they spent on lotto tickets over the many years they bought them.

“It’s just wonderful,” the wife said. “It’s uplifting. It was just fun.”

BreAnne Frye, Louisiana Lottery spokeswoman, confirmed the win and that the couple received the check – after taxes.

It was a Powerball ticket worth $100,000 sold at the Paradis Time Saver, Frye said. The winning ticket matched four of the five winning numbers: 05-14-31-40-50.

The couple had also added the “Power Play option” to the ticket and the number drawn was two, which doubled the win to $100,000.

While they bought lotto tickets everywhere, they say the Time Saver was the usual place to buy them and hang out with its owners.

The couple say they’re sharing the money with their children, grandchildren and a great grandchild, as well as St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

“I have my rosary in my hand right now,” said the wife. “I pray to St. Jude all the time.”

While some parents keep the money until they die, the couple say they want to see their family enjoy it.

“He’s a family man,” said the wife. “He loves his children and grandchildren.”

Also, the couple are confident another win is in the works.

The wife added, “He knows he’s going to win again.”
