Public School overhaul websites

School websites get a face lift in effort to better assist parents and students

Public schools in St. Charles Parish are in the mist of another exciting first week of a brand new school year. If you’re a parent or student in the parish, chances are you have noticed a change in the district’s website and the websites for individual public schools within the parish.

“We have upgraded our websites and added new features in an effort to help students and parents be more informed and organized for the school year.  In the past, we have utilized separate websites for the school district and schools.  This new design is uniform across the board at a district level and in every school,” said Rochelle Cancienne, Director of Public Information for St. Charles Parish Schools.  She went on to say, “We are very excited and pleased with the new look of the websites and the tools available to parents and students.”

The district’s website contains features that provide information about the district, the latest district and school news, department listings, links to individual public schools in the parish and a section specifically designed for students and parents which include all back to school information, dress code policies, bus routes and bell times, just to name a few of the new website features now available.

For those seeking employment with St. Charles Parish Public Schools, there is a link on the district’s home page that will direct job seekers to a full list of employment opportunities within the school system.  It also provides information on  how to apply and qualifications for each job opening.

The ‘calendar’ feature located on the home page of the district’s website is an exciting new tool for parents and students.  Parents will be able to custom design calendars to include specific events at the schools where their children are enrolled.  Parents with children in different schools within the parish will never again have to sift through events at other schools to get to their child’s school activities and postings.  “The calendar will allow parents the opportunity to better organize their child’s school activities,” said Cancienne.

On the school websites, parents and students will be able to access teacher home pages, information about the school,  the latest school news, extracurricular activities and much more.  “It is the goal of the school system to have every teacher set up with a personal web page by the end of the 06-07 school year.  Students and parents will be able to communicate with their teachers and gain important information about their classes,” said Cancienne.
