A political drama produced by George Clooney and starring Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton recently filmed in Norco’s Bonnet Carré Spillway.
“Our Brand Is Crisis” is a remake of a documentary of the same name about campaign strategies used in the 2002 Bolivian presidential election.
That year, American-educated Bolivian politician Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada hired James Carville’s political consulting firm to help him win the 2002 Bolivian presidential election.
The movie set up staging in Montz park and filmed in the spillway for a day last week. It was the most recent movie to take advantage of the spillway’s outdoor appeal.
“When directors in the area are looking for a large outdoor area, they contact us,” Dr. Chris Brantley, manager of the Bonnet Carré Spillway, said.
In the last year, “American Ultra” and “The Best of Me” both filmed inside the spillway, Brantley said.
“American Ultra,” which stars Kristen Stewart, is about a stoner whose sleepy, small-town existence is disrupted when his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a government operation set to wipe him out.
“The Best of Me,” is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, the author of “The Notebook.” It stars James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan.
Scenes for award-winning HBO drama “True Detective” were also filmed inside the spillway.
