A 60-year-old man and 57-year-old woman were arrested at their St. Rose home after police executed a search warrant and found drugs and guns in their residence, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
During the search of the home located at 717 Mockingbird Lane, officers found a locked metal safe located in the den behind a recliner that had a bag containing 14.85 grams of cocaine, according to authorities. The safe also contained 8.43 grams of marijuana and .31 grams of marijuana were located in a bedroom.
Capt. Pat Yoes, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said that a revolver was discovered in a closet inside a coffee maker box and a .22 caliber rifle was located in the bedroom.
Additionally, Yoes said that officers discovered a brown pit bull in the backyard that didn’t have food or water. A heavy chain was looped around the dog’s neck and had embedded into it.
Animal control officers have taken possession of the emaciated and malnourished pit bull, Yoes said.
Mathew Washington, who lived at the home, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana third offense, two counts of the possession of a firearm with a controlled, dangerous substance, resisting arrest by refusing to ID and cruelty to animals. His bond was set at $100,000.
Betty Ward Cox, who also lives at the home, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm with a controlled, dangerous substance. Cox’s bond was set at $75,000.
At the same time the officers were searching the Mockingbird Lane home, police were also going through a home on 2nd Street in St. Rose. There, authorities say they found 2.09 grams of a white powdered substance and assorted U.S. currency.
Ireante Wilson, who lived at the home, was arrested on a 29th judicial District attachment as well as for warrants from Jefferson and Kenner. Wilson’s bond was set at $2,500.
