Police: Mimosa Park burglar caught with stolen vehicle

A Boutte man suspected of stealing items out of several cars in Mimosa Park was caught with a truck stolen from the area where the crimes occurred, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Leroy Johnson, 21, of 341 Magnolia Ridge in Boutte, was found in possession of stolen goods including a 2004 Nissan Frontier, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said.The truck was stolen from Kellog Drive in Luling.

Yoes said Johnson likely rode his bike into the subdivision and broke into other vehicles before finding the truck keys and using it to flee the area.

“It appears (Johnson) stole the vehicle and put his bike in the back,” Yoes said. “We found it the next morning.”

In addition to the vehicle, deputies also found at least one other item reported stolen from another car the same night. Johnson is currently being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on charges of burglary of a moveable and vehicle theft.

He was also charged for possession of drug paraphernalia and not wearing a seat belt.
