Police investigating jump from bridge

Police are investigating after someone jumped from the Hale Boggs Bridge Wednesday.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there was a person who jumped from the bridge, but the identity of the person was not disclosed.  

Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Jenni Barrette said there is an active investigation and an ongoing search for the individual.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday an eyewitness reported that an individual had jumped from the Hale Boggs Bridge (northbound side).

Barrette said the Sheriff’s Office is in the process of confirming the individual’s identity and notifying the family.

“We have launched an active search operation for the individual in the Mississippi River. The Coast Guard also has personnel on the water and in the air assisting with the search,” Barrette said.
