Police hit the streets in search of killer

St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s detectives scoured the St. Rose Community looking for clues and passing out Crime Stoppers’ flyers last week to help the department solve the third murder in the parish this year.

Hilda Mae Zeringue Warren was found shot in the back of the head in her home at 134 Fourth Street on Aug. 13 in the small, close-knit, family-oriented community.

Detectives went door-to-door along with Sheriff Greg Champagne asking questions and taking the names and phone numbers of residents.

“We’re doing everything we can to solve this murder,” Champagne said. “We hope that the reward money will encourage someone to come forward and give information that will lead to the arrest of the person.”

So far, the detectives have come up emptyhanded, though they hope to get new leads soon.

“With what information and evidence we have so far, we believe the crime was committed by someone Ms. Warren knew,” he said. “We will expand the area next week in St. Rose where we will distribute flyers asking for information.”

Those with any information regarding this murder can contact Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1111. All callers will remain anonymous.
