Parish has received over $3.6 million in CDBG funds since ‘82

The St. Charles Parish Council and parish president have proclaimed April 12 through April 18 as National Community Development Week.

Since 1982, St. Charles Parish has received over $3,627,513 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr. announced on March 16.

“With these funds we have been able to undertake a number of projects, including the reconstruction of residential streets and improvements to our water systems and sewerage collection and treatment systems,” he said. “Over 5,900 people in our community have benefited from these projects; the majority of whom are of low and moderate income status.”

The CDBG program is among the few flexible sources of federal funds that remain available to rural governments for community development. Projects must primarily benefit low-and moderate-income persons.
