Suspected tornado rips through Paradis Saturday afternoon

A church on BG Road and Hwy 90 was damaged by the suspected tornado.

The St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center and Department of Homeland Security are working with local agencies to assess damages from a reported tornado in the Paradis area. Residents in need of assistance should call the EOC at 985-783-5050.

Parish officials said that the majority of damage reports are between Cadow Road and Bayou Gauche Road. The Paradis Volunteer Fire Department has confirmed reports of downed trees and power lines throughout the area, as well as minor structural damage. Officials said residents should not touch downed powerlines, as they could be active.

Highway 90 West is partially closed due to downed power lines. The St. Charles Sheriff’s Office is on site, and 18 wheelers are unable to pass at this time.
