New restaurant opens in former Sal’s location

“We’re bringing hospitality back!” is the motto of St. Charles Parish’s newest restaurant 90 West, which is taking over the former Sal’s location on Highway 90 and hoping to become a staple among area residents.

Bethany Bernard Ayuso, operator of 90 West and daughter of Luling residents Michael and Melinda Bernard, has created a menu filled with traditional South Louisiana-style dishes, and has incorporated creative twists that draw on influences from every spot along the highway from the Florida panhandle all the way to Texas.

Bethany has operated various restaurants since her college days in Lafayette. As a devoted fan of the Food Network, she has always had a passion for cooking. Owning her own restaurant seemed like the next logical step. Her husband, Lito, shares her experience and her passion for “providing the community with good food and service and a place fellow residents and visitors will be proud of and will want to come back to again and again.”

Bethany has worked for corporate chains including TGI Fridays, Copelands and La Madeleines. Lito got his restaurant experience at Salvatore’s, Two Tony’s, and La Madeleines.

“90 West will use the best produce, meats and seafood purchased from local, licensed vendors to ‘Wow!’ guests in a casual dining environment. The mission of 90 West is to provide quality service and fresh, traditional dishes through attention to detail,” Bethany told the St. Charles Herald Guide.

The main restaurant will include two large dining rooms and full bar, with catering and special event facilities soon to come. Both dining rooms will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The lunch buffet, available for takeout, will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and will offer local favorites such as red beans and rice and fried catfish. Lighter fare-soups, salads and sandwiches will be available until 4pm. The dinner offerings will include a variety of fresh meats, seafood and poultry. Some of the house specialties will include entrees such as ‘Boutte Brisket,’ ‘Stuffed Pork Chops,’ ‘Blackened Tuna,’ and ‘Bayou Surf and Turf.’

The bar will be stocked with a wide range of domestic and imported beers, a full complement of spirits, seasonal wines, and signature drinks such as ‘The Belito’ – an extraordinary combination of guava and pineapple juices mixed with dark rum.

“We are interested in what the community wants, “ Bethany said. Come in, try us out, and tell us what you think, either in person or through our website at www.90west.net. We want our customers to have a great dining experience.”
