Montz Park gets facelift as first round of improvements begin

New playground equipment was recently added to the 20-acre Montz Park thanks to a $70,000 grant from Entergy. Improvements on the way include resurfacing the basketball courts, building pavilions and adding parking.

Montz Park is set for its first phase of improvements, which will include constructing a multi-use field, redoing the basketball courts, building pavilions, installing fencing and adding parking.

This will be the first step of a $3.5 million master plan for the 20-acre park that will eventually include lighted ballfields, a walking path, covered bleachers and a community center.

Frickey Brothers Construction turned in a low bid of $342,718 for the first phase.

“This is a long-awaited project in that growing community,” Councilman Marcus Lambert said. “The community is excited and we’re ready to make it happen.”

New playground equipment was recently added to the park thanks to a $70,000 grant from Entergy.

“(This phase) will add a few ball fields and some pavilions to go along with the beautiful playground equipment that Entergy provided,” St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Director Duane Foret said. “This is a three-year project that is finally coming to fruition. It’s really going to be a nice asset to the Montz community.”

The site already has two full-length basketball courts, but the first phase calls for them to be resurfaced. New basketball goals will also be added. Fencing will be built around the park and a berm along the playground will be redone, Foret said.

The park is home to the only current playground in Montz.
“This will definitely be a need into the long-range plan we have going,” Foret said.
